FAQs

What contaminants can a reverse-osmosis (RO) system remove from Tullahoma’s municipal or well water?

A properly sized RO unit can reject 90–99 % of dissolved solids, including lead, arsenic, nitrates, fluoride, sodium, and hardness minerals. It also filters out chlorine by-products, PFAS, pharmaceuticals, and most microorganisms larger than 0.0001 microns. Tullahoma’s annual Consumer Confidence Report shows occasional traces of disinfection by-products and moderate hardness; an RO system reduces these to non-detectable levels, giving you bottled-water quality straight from the tap.

How often will I need to service or change filters on my RO unit?

Prefilters (sediment and carbon) should be replaced every 6–12 months to protect the membrane from chlorine and particulates. The RO membrane itself lasts 2–5 years, depending on incoming TDS and water temperature. A final polishing filter is normally changed annually. Our service plans include an annual on-site performance test, sanitization, and filter swap, so you never have to track dates or order parts yourself.

Does an RO system waste a lot of water, and can that be reduced?

Traditional RO units send 3–4 gallons of concentrate to the drain for every gallon of purified water. New high-efficiency models we install in Tullahoma operate at a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio. We can also route the reject line to a rain barrel or irrigation line so that concentrate water is reused for non-potable purposes. Because Tullahoma’s water rates are lower than the national average, the added cost is typically just pennies per day.

Where can the RO system be installed and how much space will it take?

Most residential RO units fit under a standard 36-inch kitchen sink: roughly 16" W × 6" D × 18" H for the filter module plus a 3–4 gallon pressurized storage tank (11" D × 15" H). If cabinet space is tight, we can relocate the tank to an adjacent cabinet, basement, or laundry room and run a ¼-inch supply line to the dedicated RO faucet. For whole-home RO applications we mount larger units in the garage or utility room with bypass plumbing for outdoor spigots.

How long do RO systems last and where can I buy replacement parts in Tullahoma?

The core RO housing, manifold, and storage tank have life expectancies of 10–15 years when serviced regularly. We stock OEM filters, membranes, and faucets locally and can ship same-day within Coffee and Franklin counties. If you prefer DIY maintenance, you can pick up cartridges at our N. Jackson St. showroom or order online for curbside pickup.

Is my existing plumbing and water pressure suitable for an RO installation?

Most homes in Tullahoma receive 45–70 psi of municipal water pressure, well within the 40–100 psi range an RO membrane requires. We check actual pressure during our free site survey and can add a booster pump for low-pressure wells or a pressure-reducing valve for high-pressure situations. Installation only needs a cold-water feed, a drain connection, and a 110 V outlet if a booster or UV post-filter is added.
