Reverse-osmosis Rigs | Water Purification | Plumbing | Speedwell

Imagine crystal-clear water coursing through every tap in Speedwell—no chlorine tang, no sediment swirl, just pure refreshment straight from HEP’s reverse-osmosis rigs. Our plumbers pair industrial-grade membranes with precision-machined manifolds, stripping away up to 99% of dissolved solids, micro-contaminants, and lingering odours. The result is a compact, quietly efficient system that tucks neatly beneath a sink or scales up for a full commercial plant, all installed by technicians who treat your property as carefully as they do your water.

Whether you’re brewing the perfect espresso, guarding lab instruments, or simply wanting healthier hydration at home, our rigs give you control at the twist of a valve. We monitor flow rates, pressure, and membrane health in real time, so you enjoy uninterrupted water purification without the maintenance guesswork. Ready to taste the difference? One visit from HEP turns everyday H₂O into the standard your neighbours will start asking for.

FAQs

What is reverse osmosis and how does it purify my household water?

Reverse osmosis (RO) forces water through a semi-permeable membrane that is so fine it removes dissolved salts, metals, organic compounds, bacteria, and viruses. In our Speedwell rigs, water first passes through sediment and carbon pre-filters to catch dirt, rust, chlorine, and chemicals that could damage the membrane. Under pressure, only H₂O molecules can diffuse across the membrane, while contaminants are flushed to drain. A post-carbon polish filter then improves taste and odour, giving you bottled-quality water straight from the tap.

How much water can a Speedwell RO rig produce each day?

Production varies by model, mains pressure, and water temperature, but our residential rigs typically generate 190–300 litres (50–80 gpd) of purified water in 24 hours. Light-commercial units can reach 1,500 litres per day. Systems include a pressurised storage tank (8–40 litres) so you have instant draw-off capacity even when demand briefly exceeds real-time production.

Will installing an RO system affect my existing plumbing?

Installation is minimally invasive. A plumber tees into your cold-water line with a feed valve, mounts the RO module under a sink or in a utility area, and installs a dedicated drinking-water faucet through a 12 mm (½-inch) hole in the worktop or sink deck. A 6 mm drain saddle is clamped to the sink waste pipe for reject water. No major pipework alterations are needed, and everything is reversible if you move home.

How often do filters and the RO membrane need replacing?

• Sediment pre-filter: 6–12 months, depending on turbidity and usage. • Carbon block pre-filter: 6–12 months to maintain chlorine/chloramine removal. • RO membrane: 2–3 years on municipal water, or sooner if you have high hardness or iron. • Post-carbon polishing filter: 12 months. Our rigs feature colour-coded quick-change cartridges and optional inline TDS meters that alert you when water quality begins to drift, making upkeep straightforward.

Does reverse osmosis remove healthy minerals, and can I add them back?

Yes, RO strips virtually all dissolved minerals, including calcium and magnesium. If you prefer mineralised water, we offer two simple options: 1. Remineralisation cartridge – clips onto the outlet line and dissolves food-grade calcium carbonate back into the water, raising pH and hardness. 2. Blending valve – allows you to mix a small, controlled amount of filtered (but non-RO) water with RO water, restoring taste without compromising purity. Both options are inexpensive and easy to retrofit.

How much wastewater does the system create, and can I reuse it?

A modern RO rig has a 1:1–3:1 waste-to-product ratio, meaning every litre of purified water may generate 1–3 litres of concentrate. Efficiency improves with higher mains pressure and lower TDS. The reject stream is not hazardous; it simply contains the concentrated salts already present in your supply. Many customers route it to garden barrels, floor-mop buckets, or toilet cisterns, reducing overall water loss.
