FAQs
What does “transparent pricing” mean for pipe upgrades with Reliance?
It means you receive a written, itemized quote before any work begins. The quote lists labour, materials, permits, disposal fees and taxes separately, so you know exactly what you are paying for. Unless you request additional work or unforeseen code issues are uncovered and approved by you in writing, the price on that quote is the price you pay—no hidden surcharges or last-minute add-ons.
How is the cost of a pipe upgrade calculated?
Our technicians first perform a free on-site assessment to measure pipe runs, identify material type, count fittings, and evaluate accessibility. Pricing is then calculated using fixed labour rates per linear foot, current material costs (copper, PEX, CSST, etc.), fixture reconnections, and permit fees mandated by the municipality. Because these unit rates are pre-published on our website, you can verify each line of the estimate yourself.
Do I have to replace all the piping in my home or can I upgrade only specific sections?
You can choose either approach. Full repipes are recommended for homes with widespread corrosion, lead, or poly-butylene lines. However, many customers opt for targeted upgrades—such as replacing galvanized risers with copper, converting only the hot-water loop to PEX, or adding a larger-diameter main supply for better flow. During the assessment, we will map out your system and explain the pros, cons, and pricing of partial versus complete upgrades so you can decide what best fits your needs and budget.
Will my water or gas service be interrupted during the upgrade, and for how long?
Yes, service must be shut off while we cut into the lines, but we minimize downtime by staging work in sections. A typical single-bathroom water repipe results in 4–6 hours of water shut-off, usually scheduled during the workday. For gas pipe upsizing, the interruption is commonly 2–3 hours. If the project spans multiple days, we reconnect essential fixtures each evening whenever possible so you are never without key services overnight.
Are permits and inspections included in the quoted price?
Absolutely. Reliance handles all municipal permit applications, pays the associated fees, and schedules mandatory inspections. The cost of those permits—as well as any required pressure or flow tests—is already embedded in the upfront quote, so you don’t have to juggle paperwork or budget additional funds later.
What warranties or guarantees come with Reliance pipe upgrade work?
All piping materials are warrantied for 25 years against manufacturing defects, and our workmanship is guaranteed for 10 years. If a leak, improper slope, or code violation related to our installation occurs during that period, we fix it at no cost. In addition, customers receive a one-year satisfaction guarantee: if you are unhappy for any reason, we will make it right or refund the labour component of your invoice.
