FAQs
What contaminants will a compact under-sink filter remove from Harrogate tap water?
Our multi-stage cartridges are designed for Yorkshire Water’s supply and typically reduce chlorine, sediment, rust particles, micro-plastics, lead, pesticides, organic chemicals (VOC), bad taste and odour, and up to 99.9 % of bacteria and cysts. They leave the healthy minerals such as calcium that give Harrogate its naturally balanced taste, so the water still tastes fresh while being noticeably purer.
How much space do I need in the cupboard under the sink?
The compact systems we supply measure roughly 275 mm (h) × 110 mm (w) × 115 mm (d). This is about the size of a 2-litre drinks bottle, so they fit into most standard 500 mm or 600 mm kitchen base units with room to spare for pipework and cleaning products. If you have an undersink waste disposal or softener already in place, we can usually mount the filter horizontally or in an adjacent unit—our installer will confirm during the free site survey.
Do I need a separate filtered-water tap or can I use my existing mixer tap?
You can choose either option. 1) Standard installation uses a dedicated, lead-free mini-tap that sits neatly beside your main mixer and delivers only filtered water. 2) If you prefer not to drill another hole, we can supply a 3-way mixer that combines hot, cold and filtered outlets in one stylish faucet. Both options are WRAS-approved and keep filtered water completely isolated from the unfiltered supply.
How often will I need to change the filter cartridge and what does it cost?
For an average Harrogate household of four people, cartridges last 6–12 months or around 4,000–6,000 litres, depending on usage and the season (higher chlorine in summer). A reminder sticker and optional email alert are provided. Replacement cartridges cost from £32 to £55 each, and we offer a discounted annual service visit that includes the cartridge, system sanitisation and flow test.
Will the filter reduce my mains water pressure or flow rate?
No—when correctly installed the pressure drop is less than 0.2 bar, so most users notice no change at all. The dedicated mini-tap delivers up to 3 litres per minute, more than enough to fill a kettle or jug quickly. If you opt for a 3-way mixer, the hot and cold mains lines remain unrestricted: only the filtered water channel passes through the cartridge.
I rent my home—can I still have an under-sink filter fitted, and is it reversible?
Yes. The system is fully compliant with Yorkshire Water by-laws and needs only a small 6 mm cold-feed saddle valve that does not alter existing pipework. With your landlord’s permission we can usually mount the mini-tap in the stainless-steel sink ledge or replace your existing tap with a 3-way model. When you move, the filter and valve can be removed in about 15 minutes, leaving only a discreet 4 mm screw hole that can be capped or fitted with a blanking grommet.
