FAQs

What contaminants do under-sink water filters remove from Bristol’s tap water?

Our multi-stage cartridges are designed for the specific chemistry of Bristol’s mains supply. They typically reduce chlorine, chloramines, unpleasant tastes and odours, limescale, heavy metals such as lead and mercury, common agricultural pesticides, residual pharmaceuticals, and emerging contaminants like micro-plastics. The result is clearer, better-tasting water while essential minerals such as calcium and magnesium remain.

How often do I need to replace the filter cartridges and can I do it myself?

For an average Bristol household the main cartridge lasts 6–12 months or roughly 2,000–4,000 litres, whichever comes first. A sediment pre-filter (if fitted) may need changing every 3–6 months in areas with older pipework. Replacement is straightforward: turn off the feed valve under the sink, twist-off the old cartridge, twist-on the new one, and turn the valve back on. Detailed instructions and a filter-change spanner are supplied, or we can schedule a maintenance visit if you prefer professional assistance.

Will installing an under-sink filter reduce the water pressure at my kitchen tap?

Modern high-flow cartridges are engineered to keep pressure loss to a minimum. On a typical Bristol mains pressure of 2–3 bar, users notice little or no drop at the dedicated filtered-water faucet, and there is no effect on your normal hot-and-cold supply. If you choose a single three-way mixer tap (hot, cold and filtered), only the filtered line is mildly restricted to ensure optimum contact time with the media.

Do I need a separate filtered-water faucet or can the system feed my existing mixer tap?

Both options are possible: • Standard set-ups include a compact, stylish filtered-water faucet that mounts next to your main tap, requiring only a 12 mm hole in the sink or worktop. • If you prefer one spout for everything, we can supply a three-way mixer that delivers hot, cold and filtered water through separate internal channels, keeping the purified water isolated. This avoids drilling another hole and is ideal for modern kitchens.

How much space and what plumbing connections are required under my sink?

A single cartridge system measures roughly 35 cm high × 12 cm wide, so it fits comfortably inside most standard kitchen cabinets. You’ll need: • A cold-water feed with a ½" (15 mm) isolation valve—often already present on the sink supply line. • Enough clearance below the cartridge for easy twist-off servicing. • A small section of cabinet wall or back panel to mount the bracket with two screws (supplied). No electrical connection or drain line is needed.
